At Close Range es una película basada en hechos reales sobre una familia de gángsters de Pennsylvania liderada por Bruce Johnston, Sr. que operó durante los años 1960 y '70. Fue estrenada en abril de 1986, fue dirigida por James Foley y protagonizada por Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Chris Penn, Mary Stuart Masterson, Millie Perkins, Candy Clark y Crispin Glover. La exitosa canción "Live to Tell" de Madonna fue escrita para la película.

Argumento

Brad Whitewood, Sr. (Christopher Walken) es el líder de una organización criminal formada por sus hermanos y amigos cercanos. Una noche, su hijo mayor Brad, Jr. (Sean Penn) se contacta con él después de una pelea que tuvo con el novio de su madre. Más tadre, termina involucrado en los asuntos criminales de su padre, y comienza su propia pandilla junto a su hermano, Tommy (Chris Penn), y sus amigos. Los chicos se ven tentados por la idea de conseguir dinero fácil y una noche deciden llevar a cabo un audaz atraco; pero terminan siendo arrestados. Su padre cree que sus hijos informarán a la policía sobre sus actividades, y como advertencia viola a Terry (Mary Stuart Masterson), la novia de su hijo mayor. Este ataque tiene un resultado opuesto, y Brad, Jr. comienza a informar a las autoridades sobre las actividades de su padre, incluyendo un asesinato del que fue testigo.
