Las Kreple son donas tradicionales originarias de Silesia y conocidas en toda Alemania.

El nombre de Kreple o Kraeple (pequeño buñuelo) se deriva del gótico krappa.

La razón tradicional para cocinar kreple fue usar la manteca de cerdo, azúcar, huevos y fruta existentes en el hogar, cuyo consumo estaba prohibido durante la Cuaresma. Se comía especialmente el último jueves antes de Cuaresma.
