"I Know There's an Answer" es una canción escrita por el grupo estadounidense The Beach Boys, fue incluida en el álbum Pet Sounds de 1966. Es la canción número nueve del álbum. La canción fue compuesta y producida por Brian Wilson y la letra fue compuesta por Terry Sachen y Mike Love. La voz líder de la canción es de Mike Love y Al Jardine con Brian Wilson en coros. La canción tiene el empleo interesante de un banjo y una armónica baja.[1]

La canción originalmente iba a llamarse "Hang On to Your Ego", la letra del coro fue cambiada por las preocupaciones en las connotaciones sobre el LSD "Hang On to Your Ego", sería muy controversial, el título de la canción fue renombrada.[2] La canción habla sobre el egocentrismo de la gente y el cantante les dice "...the way that they live could be better". El refrán de la canción es "I know there's an answer/I know now but I have to find it by myself". Terry Sachen, quién fue el manager de los Beach Boys por ese tiempo tiene el crédito de co-escritura de la canción, junto con Mike Love. Love explico:

"Yo sabía que Brian comenzaba a experimentar con LSD y otras drogas psicodélicas. En ese tiempo prevalecía la opinión de que, consumiendo ciertas dosis de droga, te destruiría el ego que tenías, como si eso fuera algo positivo. Yo no estaba interesado en tomar ácido o deshacerse de mi ego". Jardine recordó que la decisión de cambiar la letra iba a ser en última instancia: "Brian estaba muy preocupado. Quería saber lo que pensamos al respecto. Para ser honesto, no creo que ni siquiera sabía lo que era un ego ... Por último, Brian decidió; 'Olvídenlo. Estoy cambiando la letra. Hay demasiada controversia".[3]

La canción se puso en el álbum de estudio Pet Sounds de 1966, en The Pet Sounds Sessions de 1997 aparece la canción en mono, en una versión en estéreo y además de una versión a cappella.
