Lady in the water (titulada La joven del agua en España y La dama en el agua en Hispanoamérica) es una película del director M. Night Shyamalan estrenada en 2006 y protagonizada por Paul Giamatti y Bryce Dallas Howard. Es una adaptación de un cuento de hadas que el propio director inventó para sus hijos. Es la primera película de Shyamalan que no produjo Walt Disney Pictures, sino Warner Bros.

Sinopsis

Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) trabaja como personal de mantenimiento en un complejo de apartamentos en Filadelfia cuando una noche encuentra a una misteriosa joven (Bryce Dallas Howard) en las galerías que pasan debajo de la piscina comunitaria. Cleveland descubre entonces que se trata de una narf, es decir, una ninfa surgida de un cuento de hadas que se ha embarcado en un peligroso viaje desde nuestro mundo hacia el suyo.

Curiosidades

  • El argumento de la película está basado en un cuento que M. Night Shyamalan inventó para sus hijos.
  • Night exigió que el set de rodaje estuviese a menos de 45 minutos de su casa de Pensilvania. Llegó a cronometrar el viaje: 43 minutos.
  • El director, fascinado por haber encontrado a la desconocida Cindy Cheung, se escandalizó cuando oyó que su agente pedía un millón de dólares por su papel en la película. Night estaba preparado para pagar el salario mínimo del Sindicato de Actores, unos 65.000 dólares. Finalmente, llegaron a un acuerdo por 100.000.

Críticas

La película recibio criticas mixtas por parte de los criticos especializados. Fue la primera película de Night en recibir criticas peores que las anteriores, aunque en algunos paises fue bien recibida y aclamada por la critica. Fotogramas le otorgo cuatro estrellas sobre 5 y Cinemania, 3 y media sobre cinco. en IMD se le otorga un 5,8 sobre 10
