American VI será el último álbum del cantante country Johnny Cash. Como sus predecesores American Recordings, Unchained, American III: Solitary Man, American IV: The Man Comes Around y American V: A Hundred Highways, American VI es producido por Rick Rubin y sera lanzado por su disquera American Recordings. Lost Highway Records distribuye los CDs country de American Recordings. Pese al esfuerzo de Cash por hacer el álbum Unearthed (un box set compuesto de las canciones que sacaron de los primeros 4 CDs de la serie American Recordings), se grabaron alrederor de 50 canciones las que Cash grabo para lanzar su último CD (la sesión American V) antes de su muerte el 12 de septiembre del 2003, Según Rubin que esas 50 canciones eran el suficiente material para lanzar 2 buenos álbumes (uno de ellos fue American V: A Hundred Highways) y estamos a las expectativa de que Rubin termine de producir estas canciones y se publique el álbum.

Una de las canciones que probablemente se incluya en este álbum ya queno fue incluida en el álbum American V es "There Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down" que es la última canción que graba y la que más sentimientos expresa hacia su inminente muerte. Otra canción que probablemente se incluida en este CD es "A Satisfied Mind" la cual fue lanzada como parte de la banda sonora de la película Kill Bill, Vol. 2, Rubin esta acreditado como productor de la canción y con los derechos de la misma desde el 2003, lo cual sugiere que sera incluida en el álbum.

La canción de Sheryl Crow, "Redemption Day" fue grabada por Cash a semanas de su muerte y es la que tiene más posibilidades de ser incluida en American VI.

Doug Kershaw le dijo al publico en 2006 de que había escuchado una grabación de Cash de una de las canciones más populares de Kershaw, "Lousiana Man" pero no se tiene registro de que Rubin piense en incluir esta canción en American VI.

American VI esta fechado a salir a la venta durante alguna parte de 2009.[1]
