Estudió en el Bristol Old Vic Theater School, y además de su carrera en cine y televisión, Miranda Richardson actuó en producciones teatrales como "Edmond" de David Mamet, "Who´s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?" de Edward Albee, "Insignificance" de Terry Johnson, "A Lie Of The Mind" de Sam Shepard y "Orlando" de Robert Wilson, entre otras. En el 2005, interpretó a la pesada reportera de El Profeta, Rita Skeeter, en Harry Potter y el cáliz de fuego.
