El National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) es un componente del National Institutes of Health (NIH), que es una agencia del Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Estados Unidos. El NIAID apoya investigaciones básicas y aplicadas para prevenir, diagnosticar y tratar enfermedades infecciosas e inmunomediadas, incluyendo el VIH/SIDA y otras enfermedades de transmisión sexual, enfermedades de potenciales agentes de bioterrorismo, tuberculosis, malaria, desorden autoinmune, asma y alergias.
El Proyecto de Secuenciación del Génoma de la Gripe con fondos del NIAID es un esfuerzo colaborativo diseñado para incrementar la base de conocimiento del génoma de la gripe y ayudar a los investigadores a entender cómo los virus de la gripe evolucionan, se propagan y causan la enfermedad.[1]
