Panquetzaliztli que en náhuatl significa ‘levantamiento de banderas’. El decimoquinto mes del calendario náhuatl de 365 días recibe este nombre y durante éste se realizan los festejos para honrar al dios de la guerra Huitzilopochtli de los aztecas o mexicas. En los 20 días que tenía de duración dicho mes que coincide entre el 9 y el 28 de noviembre del calendario actual se realizaban bailes y cantos. Durante esta ceremonia los amos de las víctimas a sacrificar realizaban un ayuno que finalizaba al final de la festividad de panquetzaliztli, cuando se producía la muerte de los cautivos, algunos de estos en el "juego de la pelota", tlachtli. El dios festejado era el más odiado y temido por los rivales de los aztecas y durante este mes se escenificaba su nacimiento.
