Promise to Try (Prometo Intentarlo) es una canción de la cantante pop estadounidense Madonna escrita y producida por ella y Patrick Leonard para su cuarto álbum de estudio Like a Prayer (1989).

Información general

A lo largo de su carrera, Madonna siempre ha hecho público el impacto que la muerte de su madre provocó en su propia vida, pero no fue hasta el álbum Like a Prayer, cuando Madonna incluyó sus sentimientos en una canción. "Promise to Try" es una balada simple donde Madonna canta acompañada de una percusión de piano. En la canción Madonna expresa sus más íntimos sentimientos hacia su madre e intenta continuar con su vida luego de su muerte pero sin olvidar los mejores recuerdos. En el final, sin embargo, la cantante expresa "I'm still hanging on / But I'm doing it wrong" (Estoy aún aferrada / Pero lo estoy haciendo mal).

"Promise to Try" fue incluida en el documental de Madonna Truth or Dare en 1991, como música de fondo de la escena en la que Madonna visita la tumba de su madre.

"Promise to Try" fue la primera ocasión en la que Madonna escribió acerca de su madre, pero no la única, ya que luego escribiría"Where Life Begins" Erotica "Inside of Me" (Bedtime Stories), "Mer Girl" (Ray of Light) y "Mother and Father" (American Life).
