Mother and Father (Madre y Padre) es una canción de la cantante pop estadounidense Madonna escrita y producida por ella y Mirwais Ahmadzaï para su noveno álbum de estudio American Life (2003).

Como ya había hecho anteriormente en "Promise to Try", "Inside of Me" y "Mer Girl", Madonna vuelve a escribir una canción acerca de la muerte de su madre. Aunque si bien la letra de la canción es triste y emocional la melodía y el ritmo son más cercanos al dance. Incluso Madonna interpreta un pequeño rap. La voz de Madonna posee un tono alto como si se tratara de una pequeña niña cantando acerca de sus padres.

En una entrevista Madonna comentó acerca de esta canción:

Es una manera de liberarme del sufrimiento por la muerte de mi madre, pero sin ponerme una medalla por haber salido adelante ni pidiendo compasión por haberlo pasado tan mal. Tampoco como una excusa, al estilo de soy así de rebelde porque me pasó todo esto de pequeña. Todas esas excusas son basura porque en la vida tienes que asumir la responsabilidad por todo lo que haces.

La canción fue lanzada como un remix en "Rauhofer Live @ The Roxy 4", un compilado de remixes de Peter Rauhofer. El radio remix de Johnny Rocks fue emitido al aire una vez pero hasta la fecha no fue comercializado.

Para completar el set acerca de su familia, Madonna incluyó "Mother and Father" en su gira Re-Invention Tour en 2004, usando el primer verso de otra canción del mismo álbum, "Intervention", que trata acerca de sus chicos y su esfuerzo por hacer todo lo posible para mantener su felicidad y el éxito en sus vidas.

En Agosto de 2005 el remix de Rauhofer se posicionó en el puesto #9 en la lista Billboard Hot Dance/Club play, marcándose como el séptimo éxito Top 10 del álbum American Life en esta lista. Madonna es la única artista que ha tenido siete éxitos Top 10 del mismo álbum en la lista Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play.
