"Run This Town" es una canción interpretada por el rapero estadounidense Jay-Z con la colaboración musical de la cantante barbadense Rihanna y del artista de rap Kanye West, quien la produjo junto a No I.D. para el décimo primer álbum de estudio de Jay-Z, The Blueprint 3.

Durante el tercer cuatrimestre del año 2009, "Run This Town" fue lanzada por el sello Roc Nation como el primer sencillo internacional de The Blueprint 3. Tras ello, "Run This Town" ingresó al top 10 de las principales listas musicales de canciones de Canadá, los Estados Unidos, Irlanda y Noruega. Caso especial fue el de la Billboard Hot 100 de los Estados Unidos, donde marcó el mejor posicionamiento registrado por un sencillo de Jay-Z.[1]

Video musical

El video musical de "Run This Town" fue dirigido por el director estadounidense Anthony Mandler, quien anteriormente trabajó con Jay-Z como director de los videos musicales de "Lost One" y "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)". Su estreno fue realizado el jueves 20 de agosto de 2009 en la cadena estadounidense de televisión por cable MTV.[2] [3] [4]

Recepción

Crítica

Pese a que los desempeños de Jay-Z y Kanye West fueron levemente cuestionados, "Run This Town" contó con una buena recepción crítica. Monica Herrera, de la revista estadounidense Billboard, citó que Jay-Z exigía respeto hacia su conglomerado Roc Nation, a través del «militante» primer sencillo de The Blueprint 3, "Run This Town". Además de ello, catalogó de «agudo y malévolo» al ritmo de "Run This Town", y señaló que aunque la entrega de Jay-Z en la canicón era «apropiada», a veces amenazaba con «extenderse» demasiado. Especificó que Kanye West se mostraba enérgico hasta su último verso, mas que fallaba a mitad de camino, tras referirse a un estado de ánimo caprichoso. En cuanto a Rihanna, señaló que tal vez era la «gracia salvadora» de "Run This Town", pues inundaba el gancho de la canción, con cantos y gritos «decididos y escalofriantes».[5]
