Donald McNicol Sutherland (n. 17 de julio de 1935) es un actor de cine canadiense. Es sobre todo conocido por sus papeles en películas de terror y bélicas de los años 1960 y 70. Es el padre de Kiefer Sutherland.

Biografía

Nació en Saint John, Nuevo Brunswick. Cursó estudios de ingeniería y arte dramático en la Universidad de Toronto, y posteriormente en 1958 se trasladó a Londres para continuar sus estudios en la Academia de Música y Arte Dramático de Londres "LAMDA".

Debutó como actor a principios de los años 1960 en pequeños papeles en películas y televisión, para más tarde conseguir algunos papeles destacables en algunas películas de terror con Christopher Lee como Castle of the Living Dead y Dr. Terror's House of Horrors. Más adelante conseguiría sus primeros éxitos con Doce del patíbulo, M.A.S.H. y Los violentos de Kelly, que lanzaría su carrera hasta nuestros días.

Ha estado casado tres veces. Entre 1959 y 1966 con Lois Hardwick; más adelante con Shirley Douglas desde 1967 hasta 1970 con quien tuvo dos hijos, Rachel y Kiefer Sutherland (actor y director, conocido sobre todo por su reciente papel en la serie de televisión 24). Actualmente está casado con la actriz Francine Racette, con quien ha tenido tres hijos.

Fue nombrado oficial de la Orden de Canadá en 1978
