Antyeṣṭi

Antieshti son ciertos rituales funerarios del hinduismo que implican la cremación, seguida de la disposición final de las cenizas en algún río sagrado.

  • अन्त्येष्टि, en escritura devánagari.
  • antyeṣṭi, en el sistema IAST de transliteración.

En sánscrito, antya: ‘final’ e íṣṭi: ‘oblación consistente de mantequilla, frutas, etc., opuesta al soma, sacrificio de un animal.[1]

Con la mayor brevedad posible después de la muerte de un individuo, su cuerpo es llevado a las instalaciones de incineración, emplazadas normalmente sobre la orilla del río. El primogénito del difunto junto a un brahmán (sacerdote hinduista), realizan los últimos ritos.

Durante 10 días los parientes del muerto son considerados impuros.

Después llevarán a cabo regularmente diversos rituales śrāddha con la intención de dar al alma del fallecido, un bhoga deha (cuerpo material sutil donde disfrutará o sufrirá, en el lapso de muchos años antes de su siguiente reencarnación en este mundo).
