Cloris Leachman (n. Des Moines, Iowa, Estados Unidos;30 de abril de 1926) es una actriz estadounidense. A lo largo de sus más de 60 años de carrera, incursionó en cine, teatro y televisión. Sus interpretaciones la hicieron acreedora de numeresosos premios, entre ellos ocho Primetime Emmy,un Óscar y un Globo de Oro.

Cloris saltó a la fama en los años 1970 al actuar en la serie The Mary Tyler Moore Show y en la película The Last Picture Show. También apareció en tres películas de Mel Brooks, incluyendo la exitosa Young Frankenstein.

En 2008, a la edad de 82 años, concursó en el programa Dancing With The Stars.[1]

Biografía

Los primeros años

Cloris, la mayor de tres hermanos, nació en Des Moines, Iowa, hija de Cloris Wallace y Berkeley "Buck" Leachman.[2] [3]

Carrera

Inicios en la actuación

Leachman estudió interpretación en el Actors Studio con Elia Kazan. Después reemplazó a la actriz Nellie Forbush en el musical de Broadway South Pacific. En los siguientes años actuó en otras obras teatrales como Come Back, Little Sheba de William Inge, a la que luego abandonó para integrar el elenco de la obra de William Shakespeare As You Like It.[4]

Reconocimiento profesional

En 1971 participó en la película The Last Picture Show dirigida por Peter Bogdanovich por el que ganó el Óscar como mejor actriz de reparto.

Desde 1970 hasta 1975 interpretó el papel de Phyllis Lindstrom en la serie televisiva The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Por este rol ganó dos Premios Emmy como mejor actriz secundaria en una comedia. A partir de 1975, este personaje fue la figura central de su propia serie, titulada Phyllis, que se mantuvo al aire durante dos temporadas. En 1976 ganó el Globo de Oro como mejor actriz de comedia o musical.

En 1977, apareció como invitada en el episodio #24 del ciclo The Muppet Show. En estos años también apareció en varios episodios de la serie Schoolhouse Rock.[5]

En 1993 Leachman participó en la película The Beverly Hillbillies junto con actores como Lily Tomlin, Jim Varney, Diedrich Bader, Erika Eleniak y Dolly Parton.

Más tarde, en 2006, protagonizó el telefilme para HBO Mrs. Harris, al lado de Sir Ben Kingsley y Annette Bening. Esta película le valió a Cloris una nominación al Emmy por mejor actriz secundaria en una miniserie o telefilme.
