La 48ª Edición de los Premios Grammy fueron entregados el viernes de febrero de 2006 en el Staples Center en Los Angeles, California.Los nominados fueron anunciados el 6 de diciembre de 2005.
El evento fue dominado por U2, banda que ganó cinco premios. Uno de esos premios fue Álbum del Año, sobrepasando a Mariah Carey, quien fue desplazada por tercera vez en esa misma categoría. Sin embargo, ella ganó su primer Grammy en 15 años. Mariah Carey, el recién llegado John Legend, y Kanye West ganaron tres premios cada uno, y Kelly Clarkson ganó dos.
Actuaciones
- Madonna y la banda animada Gorillaz abrió el show con un medley de "Feel Good Inc." y "Hung Up": primero los Gorillaz actuaron en una pantalla (usando tecnología que hace parecer la animación como un holograma) con una corta aparición real de De La Soul, luego una Madonna pre-filmada se les unió. - Christina Aguilera y Herbie Hancock performed Leon Russell's "A Song for You";
- Allen Toussaint con Bonnie Raitt, The Edge, Irma Thomas and Dr. John performed "We Can Can";
- Sam Moore, Bruce Springsteen and an ensemble band performed Wilson Pickett's "Midnight Hour" with Irma Thomas joining in on vocals.
Ganadores
