Scream queen (en español: literalmente "reina del grito", más fielmente "chica chillona") es un anglicismo que se usa en la industria del entretenimiento para referirse a las actrices que han participado en películas de terror, ya sea como víctima o como protagonista femenina. Jamie Lee Curtis fue llamada «reina del grito» por su actuación en la película Halloween, también se le llamó así a actrices que anteriormente actuaron en películas de terror, como Fay Wray.
Historia
Fay Wray la cual actuó en King Kong (1933) ha sido considerada una de las primeras reinas del grito, también actuó en varias películas de terror como Doctor X (1932), Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) y The Vampire Bat (1933). De la década de 1930, también se consideran reinas del grito a las actrices, Gloria Stuart que actuó en The Invisible Man (1933) y Elsa Lanchester que actuó en Bride of Frankenstein (1935).
En la década de 1940, fue considerada reina del grito la actriz Simone Simon que actuó en las películas Cat People (1942) y The Curse of the Cat People (1944).
En la década de 1960, la actriz Janet Leigh fue considera reina del grito por su actuación en la película Psycho (1960).
En 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis, hija de Janet Leigh, fue una de las mayores reinas del grito, actuó en la película Halloween, también actuó en otras películas de terror como Prom Night (1980), Terror Train (1980), The Fog (1980) y secuelas de Halloween.
Otras reinas del grito son: Linnea Quigley, P.J. Soles, Nancy Loomis, Marilyn Burns y Dee Wallace-Stone, entre otras.
